Who you're actually talking to
Ego Investments 1 LLC is run by Caroline Okoye. It's a life insurance company that offers rates for people who need life insurance β no auto, no home, no bundled add-ons you didn't ask for. One product, done carefully.
That focus is deliberate. Life insurance is the policy people put off longest and understand least, usually because the last person who tried to explain it was selling six other things at the same time. Caroline isn't. When you call, you get someone whose entire job is figuring out what a policy on your life should cost and whether you need one at all.
Plenty of people call, hear the numbers, and decide to wait. That's a fine outcome. A rate you understand and turn down is better than a policy you bought because someone wore you down.
What we ask before we quote a rate
A real number takes a few honest answers. None of it is a credit check and none of it obligates you to anything. Expect questions along these lines:
- Your age, and whether you use tobacco in any form β these two move the price more than anything else.
- Who depends on your income, and for how many more years they'll depend on it.
- What's already on the books: a mortgage, student loans, a business note, a child's tuition.
- Your health history, including anything you think might disqualify you. It usually doesn't.
- Whether you want coverage for a set number of years or for the rest of your life.
- What you can comfortably pay every month for a long time, not just this month.
From there the conversation gets specific. A 34-year-old with two kids and a thirty-year mortgage needs a different structure than a 58-year-old whose house is paid off and whose goal is leaving something clean behind.
The four conversations we have most
Term versus whole life
Term covers a set window β ten, twenty, thirty years β for a much lower premium. Whole life costs more and never expires, and it builds cash value along the way. Most people asking the question need term and don't know it yet. Some genuinely need whole. We'll walk through both with your actual numbers instead of a generic pitch.
Coverage for new parents
A new baby is the most common reason people finally make the call. The good news: you're young, which means your rate will never be lower than it is right now. The thing to sort out is how much coverage β enough to clear the mortgage and carry the household until the youngest is grown is a reasonable starting frame.
Gaps in your employer policy
Group life through work is a nice benefit, but it's usually one or two times salary, and it belongs to the job, not to you. Change employers and it's gone. We look at what your employer actually covers, then size a personal policy to fill the difference β one you keep regardless of where you work.
Applying with a health history
Diabetes, high blood pressure, a cancer history, a heart event, anxiety medication β none of these automatically mean no. They mean the application needs to go to the right carrier, because carriers rate the same condition very differently. Tell Caroline upfront. Guessing on an application is how people get declined.
Why the 3am call gets answered
The phone is open Monday through Sunday, around the clock. That's not a marketing line about "availability" β it's because the people who need this most tend to be up late thinking about it. A night shift nurse, a new dad doing the math after a feeding, someone who just got a diagnosis and can't sleep. Those calls get answered.
"I'd been putting off life insurance for six years. Caroline had a term quote in front of me in one call and explained why the cheaper number online wasn't going to hold up once I was underwritten. No pressure at any point." β J. Reyes
"My employer policy was one year of salary and I assumed that was enough. It wasn't close. She showed me the gap on paper and we filled it with a policy I actually own." β D. Whitfield
"I have Type 2 diabetes and figured I'd be declined. Caroline sent my application to a carrier that rates it fairly and I was approved at a price I didn't expect. Working with a licensed agent made the difference." β M. Adeyemi
If you want a number to look at, call Caroline at (708) 717-7518. Tell her your age, whether you smoke, and who you're trying to protect β that's enough to start.
